Behind the Scenes of Empowered Volleyball’s Media Day Session

Empowered volleyball player poses for media day photos in Fort Wayne.

Come with me on a sports photography session in Fort Wayne at Empowered Volleyball, where we take ordinary team photos to a whole new level! We have over 250 athletes to photograph this week so I’m setting up my big lights and my black backdrop to add some dynamic punch to the photos. Even though we have to photograph each athlete quickly because of the volume of people, I really want to capture the spirit of these girls in their volleyball element in a way that feels fresh and totally fun. I brought some props along to help with that vibe.

Waiting to get their photos done, the kids were buzzing with excitement. When I showed them the back of my camera and they started seeing the shots of their friends, they were HYPED. The photos on my camera looked nothing like the boring conference room we were standing in- the lighting and backdrop created those dramatic, pro-level shots that make you look like a superstar. As we got moving through the teams, each student got the chance to shine individually with fun poses, then do some fun duo poses with their friends, and finally we’d gather the whole team for group shots that perfectly captured the camaraderie and energy of the moment.

The best part? It wasn’t a stiff, awkward yearbook photo day. Instead, we created energy-filled, dynamic photos they couldn’t wait to post and share. I had moms messaging me afterward telling me how excited their daughter was and how much fun she had at these team pictures!

So, if you’re tired of the same old team photos and want something that truly reflects your passion and personality, you can book your own sports photography session in Fort Wayne. It’s a day where every athlete gets to be a star, and the memories last way beyond just a picture.

When K. Monique Studio and I connected about doing an artistic session for their company dancers, I was immediately excited. I love creating sessions that go beyond traditional picture day portraits and really showcase what dancers are capable of.
