The Ultimate Prep Guide | Bluebird Photography

The best beauty tips and tricks from our HAMU artists at Pin-Up Curls Salon, all compiled into one easy- access guide to have you looking your best for your session!

Skin:

You should always be following a proper skin regimen but the 7-10 days before your session are especially crucial. Be sure to cleanse, exfoliate, tone, and moisturize for bright skin with a natural glow. Follow this routine just before you head to the salon for your hair and makeup to ensure your skin is prepped and ready.

Lips:

Getting soft, supple lips that look amazing in those close-ups is easier than you think. Follow this routine before bed the week leading up to your session: Skip the lip balm! Take a clean, soft-bristle toothbrush and dip into some coconut oil, then scrub your lips to remove rough patches of skin and keep your lips moisturized!

Hair:

The day of your session, wash your hair and blow dry it out. You do not need to flat iron or curl your hair, or apply any products prior to your appointment.

Start Pinning:

Create a pinterest board with hair and makeup looks you love to share with your stylist. This will help you to be on the same page visually, and will ensure your look is completely on point with your style.

Things to avoid:

Avoid getting too much sun before your session. Raccoon eyes, tan lines, and lobster skin are definitely not on the menu for killer senior photos.

Wax your brows a few weeks before your session. You want to make sure you don’t have any redness or irritation from brow waxing the day of your session. Also be sure you clearly communicate to your esthetician if you want more natural looking brows, to be sure she doesn’t remove too much!

Think twice about doing anything drastic with your hair right before your photos. Thinking about going blue or chopping off 10”? If that look suits your personality then go for it, but if there’s a chance you’ll look back at your pictures in a few months and wonder WHYYY you did that? Better to wait until after your session to experiment with your look.
