Bluebird Photography’s What to Wear Guide | Fort Wayne’s Premiere Senior Photographer
Part of the fun and excitement leading up to your senior session is choosing your wardrobe. But sometimes it can feel stressful and overwhelming! That’s why I put together a helpful guide to inspire you, and get you started in choosing your looks for your senior portraits!
1. Choose a range of looks
I always tell my seniors to bring 6-8 looks for their sessions. We may not get to all of them but we’re shooting for 2 hours and we can squeeze a LOT of outfits into that time! You want to be sure you’re choosing a dynamic range, so that your gallery has variety and shows off all your different sides. Make sure you have a mixture of shorts, pants, skirts, and dresses to choose from. And think about outfits that provide movement and give you something to play with, like a flowy sundress or a jacket with pockets.
2. Express yourself
The most important thing to remember when you’re choosing your wardrobe is to BE YOURSELF! Infuse your style and personality into every look so that your pictures are a reflection of the real YOU!
- Are you a bubbly and outgoing girl who loves color? Incorporate a bold pop of color in your wardrobe.
- Do you have a dress from prom or formal that makes you feel AMAZING? Rock it! Glam looks are stunning and always a favorite from my seniors who choose to do them!
- Are you more of an athletic and sporty girl? Be true to yourself and make sure one of your looks incorporates that side of you!
3. Layer it UP
Layers are a great way to add dimension to your look and keep it visually interesting. Tie a flannel around your waist, add a jacket or vest, even jewelry can be used to create a layered, dynamic look.
*Tip: Denim on denim is SUPER trendy right now and I’m in love with the look!
4. Textures are your friend
When you choose layers, think about the materials and textures of the fabric. I love using knits, lace, fringe, sequins, fur… anything that adds visual interest and a unique twist to your look.
5. Accessorize
Don’t let this piece be overlooked! Make sure you have a mixture of long and short necklaces, bracelets, watches (no apple watches or other technology that will date your pictures though!). Flower crowns, wide brim hats, and sun glasses are all fun ways to incorporate accessories.
